EventMagnet is a social networking tool designed to bring communities together through common activities. Other social networking sites mimic real life; EventMagnet extends it by providing a central site for users and community members to interact and find events of similar interest. EventMagnet includes a sophisticated search algorithm to actively recommend events that users may be interested in, providing them with immediate access to the communities around them.
EventMagnet is more than just a calendar of events. On EM, you can create a profile for yourself or your organization, put together a list of friends, RSVP to events that you're excited about, share events that you are putting on, and invite your friends along, all with just a few clicks. If you are in charge of a venue, you can promote your events for free, and you can be assured that your events will reach the people that will be truly interested in them. You can also use EventMagnet's suite of event-planning tools to help set up your events.
EventMagnet is being created by Geekfire, Inc. Geekfire is a development company located in Portland, Oregon. EventMagnet originally grew out of conversations between Geekfire's founder, Michael Richardson, and Portland City Commissioner Sam Adams. Currently, EventMagnet is working with the Portland Art Center to implement an EventMagnet node specifically designed for the arts community in Portland, Oregon.
A limited alpha will be deployed by March 31. This will be invitation-only and will shortly be followed by a public beta.
